 About REWC

Exposing the Real Truth About Real Estate in Ontario

The Case Files exists because no one else was doing this.

We are a consumer watchdog and public accountability project created to protect buyers, renters, and landlords from unethical practices in Ontario's real estate system. While others protect the industry

— we protect the public.

Why We Had to Exist

Ontario has regulators, real estate boards, and licensing bodies, but none of them truly work for the people most affected by the system: everyday Ontarians trying to buy a home, rent a place, or lease out a property.

Too often, these institutions:

Ignore consumer complaints

Deflect responsibility

Protect agents and brokerages over the public

Allow misleading tactics and gatekeeping to continue

Real estate in Ontario has become a system of contracts, pressure, and confusion. Consumers are being shut out, misinformed, or forced to sign binding legal agreements just to view a home or rent a unit.

We said: enough is enough.

How We're Different

Unlike the Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO) or local real estate boards, we don’t take direction from brokerages, franchise brands, or industry insiders. We are:

✅ Independent — not tied to any government or industry body

✅ Public-facing — our priority is transparency, not protectionism

✅ Story-driven — we publish real case studies and first-hand accounts

✅ Focused on misuse of power — especially forms like Form 244 and BRA coercion

✅ Driven by outcomes — we don’t just collect complaints, we expose patterns

While RECO investigates slowly — if at all — and rarely publishes outcomes, we create a permanent public record to warn others, educate the public, and push for systemic change.

What We Do

📁 Publish real cases of unethical or harmful practices

🔎 Track patterns in realtor behaviour, form abuse, and regulatory failure

📢 Inform the public of their rights under TRESA, the RTA, and Ontario law

🛠️ Push for reform of outdated or exploitative policies like Form 244

🧾 Collect evidence and collaborate with media, advocates, and policymakers

Built by the People, for the People

We’re not a legal firm. We’re not a government agency. We’re a group of citizens, landlords, buyers, and renters who saw how broken the system is — and decided to shine a light on it.

REWC started with a simple idea: real estate shouldn’t be a trap.
If a buyer wants to see a home, they shouldn’t need to sign a contract first.
If a tenant signs a lease, it should be the legally required one.
If someone is mistreated, there should be a place to tell that story.

What’s Next?

We’re building a growing network of stories, advocates, and reformers. And we’re just getting started.

If you’ve been misled, pressured, denied access, or handed an invalid lease — this is your platform.

📢 We don’t silence stories. We amplify them.

🔒 We don’t protect the system. We protect you.
